First and last term is called extreme terms, that is $18$ and $12$ and $24$ and $9$ is called middle terms.
Product of extreme terms $=$ Product of middle terms
$18 \times 12 = 24 \times 9$
Therefore $216 = 216$
Hence $18, 24, 9, 12$ are proportion.
