They are scattered within the cytoplasm or remain attached to membranes of endoplasmic reticulum, nucleus etc. It is a globular particle. It has two units. The smaller one is dumbbell-shaped and the large unit is U -shaped. The main function of the ribosome is to help in protein synthesis.
