Menstrual cycle starts with menstrual flow followed by follicular phase. During follicular phase levels of gonadotropins (LH and FSH) increase and estrogen levels also increase. This lead to rapid secretion of LH and LH surge is attained and hence ovulation takes place. After ovulation remains of Graafian follicle turns into Corpus luteum which secretes large amounts of progesterone.
