Question

Arrange the states of matter in the increasing order of inter-molecular space

Open in App
Solution

Inter-molecular space — the space between two nearest particles is known as inter-molecular space

  • It helps to predict whether a substance is solid, liquid, and gas
  • If it is maximum then the substance is gas, if the minimum substance is liquid, too low then the substance is solid
  • It is based on the intermolecular force
  • If the intermolecular force is maximum then the space between the particles is minimum I:e solid
  • If the intermolecular force is minimum then the space between the particles is maximum I:e liquid
  • If the intermolecular force is too low then the space between the particles is too maximum I:e Gas

Thus, the increasing order of inter-molecular space is as follows

Solid < Liquid < Gas
