Question

Arrange true solutions, suspension and colloid in the decreasing order of the size of the particles?

Open in App
Solution

  1. True solution: It is a homogenous mixture of two or more substances. Example - salt solution, sugar solution, etc.
  2. Suspension: A suspension is a homogenous mixture in which the solute particles do not dissolve but remain suspended throughout the bulk of the solvent. Example - mud in the water.
  3. Colloid: A colloidal solution is a solution in which the size of the solute particles is intermediate between those in true solutions and suspension. Example - milk.

Size of the particles:

  1. True solution - less than 10-9m.
  2. Suspension - more than 10-7m.
  3. Colloidal - between 10-9 and 10-7m.

Hence, the decreasing order in the size of particles is - Suspension > Colloid >True solution.
