Question

Assertion :A, B & C are three electrolytic cells, connected in different circuits. Cell 'A' contains NaCl solution, and the bulb in the circuit glows brightly when the circuit is completed. Cell 'B' contains acetic acid and the bulb glows dimly. Cell 'C' contains sugar solution, & the bulb does not glow. Reason: NaCl is strong electrolyte so it dissociates completely into ions. Acetic acid is weak electrolyte so it dissociates very less. Sugar is non-electrolyte so it doesn't dissociates into ions.

Solution

The correct option is A Both Assertion and Reason are correct and Reason is the correct explanation for Assertion.
As NaCl is a strong electrolyte so it dissociates completely into ions and because of these ions, it conducts electricity.

As acetic acid is a weak electrolyte so it dissociates very less and forms few ions so its solution contains both molecules and ions and it conducts electricity in a small amount.

Sugar is non-electrolyte so it doesn't dissociate into ions and its solution does not conduct electricity.
