The Indian sepoys despised the British for numerous reasons. Sir John Cradock brought in new regulations like soldiers were not allowed to wear caste marks, earrings or any other item related to their caste in uniform. They were also given a leather cockade made of animal skin. which hurt their cultural sentiment.
