When voltage is stepped up by a factor K then simultaneously current will decrease by factor K, so the product of voltage & current will remains constant .

Also when voltage is stepped down by a factor K then simultaneously current will increase by factor K, so the product of voltage & current will remains constant .

So there is no violation of principle of conservation of energy.

Hence the assertion is incorrect.
