Sulphur dioxide and trioxide ($$SO_2$$ and $$SO_3$$) bleaches by reduction and they themselves gets oxidized to $$H_2SO_4$$. Presence of moisture is essential for bleaching.
$$SO_2 (g) + 2H_2O \rightarrow H_2SO_4 (aq.) + 2[H]$$
