During photosynthesis, assimilatory power ATP and NADPH2 are produced which require light. This reaction is called light reaction or Hill's reaction. Assimilatory powers are required for the reduction of CO2. This reaction is enzymatic and independent of light. It is called dark reaction which takes place in the stroma of the chloroplast. So, the dark reaction is independent of the presence of light.
