Physical quantities can be grouped into two i.e, scalars such as distance and vectors such as displacements where one has only magnitude & the other has both magnitude and direction. Since both displacement and distance are physical quantities which measure rate of change of velocity and speed measured is m/s hence, dimension of both is the same in but does not justify the assertion.
