Solution

The correct option is B Both Assertion and Reason are correct but Reason is not the correct explanation for Assertion.
  • Assertion: Flowers of racemose inflorescence can be pollinated by many agents like wind, water, animals, insects. So, assertion is correct.
  • Reason: In racemose head inflorescence The peduncle is little flattened to form a receptacle that bears small sessile flowers called florets. The florets are arranged in a centripetal fashion, i.e., younger towards the centre and older towards the periphery. So, reason is also correct.
  • But centripetal arrangement of florets is not reason for flowers getting pollinated by insects. Any other arrangement of flowers also can attract insects for pollination with the help of attractive floral parts.
  • So, the correct answer is ' Both Assertion and Reason are correct but Reason is not the correct explanation for Assertion.'
