Solution

The correct option is A Both Assertion and Reason are correct and Reason is the correct explanation for Assertion
Free nitrate ion can be detected by ion selective method. The ion sensitive electrode has a polymer membrane permeable to ion exchange but impermeable to water. It allows sensing cell to contact with solution. As the concentration of ion changing at the sensing electrode voltage changes. Hence can be detected.
It is similar to pH sensitive electrodes in terms of functioning.
