Solution

The correct option is B Both assertion and reason are true but reason is not the correct explanation of the assertion
Microspheres are non-living collection of organic molecules with a double-layered outer boundary. Sidney W. Fox gave the term microsphere.

Microspheres swell in hypotonic solution (water enters inside) or shrink (water moves outside) in hypertonic solution. This movement of water depends on the osmotic potential of the solution.

Osmotic potential is the ability of water molecules to move from a hypotonic solution (less solutes and more water) to a hypertonic solution (more solutes and less water) across a semi permeable membrane. That means, microspheres behave according to the surrounding osmotic potential. Hence assertion is a true statement but the reason is not a correct explanation of the assertion. .

Microspheres have the ability of mobility, growth, and binary fission (dividing into two). They have a capacity of reproduction by budding and fragmentation. Their budding resembles with those of bacteria and fungi. Hence reason is a true statement.
