Solution

The correct option is B Both Assertion and Reason are correct but Reason is not the correct explanation for Assertion
Thiohene present in commercial benzene as an impurity can be removed by shaking the mixture with cold concentrated H2SO4.
Thiophene is a heterocyclic aromatic compound.
On shaking with concentrated H2SO4 thiophene being more reactive undergoes sulphonation and the thiophene-2-sulphonic acid thus formed dissolves in concentrated H2SO4.

Shaking a mixture of benzene and thiophene with sulfuric acid at room temperature causes sulfonation of the thiophene but leaves the benzene untouched.
Thiophene is aromatic because it has six π electrons in a planar, cyclic, conjugated system.

Both Assertion and Reason are correct but Reason is not the correct explanation for Assertion.
