Solution

Step 1: Given

Neutron Proton + Electron

Step 2: Known Data

Mass of neutron, mn=1.6725×10-27kg

mass of proton, mp=1.6725×10-27kg

mass of electron, mn=9.1×10-31kg

Step 3: Formula used

Change in mass,m=(mp+me)-mn

Energy released, E=mc2

where c is the speed of light.

Step 4: Calculation

m=(mp+me)-mn

=1.6725×10-27kg+9.1×10-31kg-1.6725×10-27kg=9.1×10-31kg

The energy released during this process,

E=mc2

=9.1×10-31kg×(3×108)2J=8.19×10-14J=8.19×10-141.6×10-19×106MeV=0.51MeV

So, energy released during this process will be 8.19×10-14Jor 0.51MeV.
