Question

At 2 atm pressure and 0°C temperature volume of a gas of fixed mass is 500 cc. Keeping pressure constant if the temperature has been rised to 273°C, what will be the volume of the gas?

Solution

From Charles' law, volume of gas at θ°C (V2) = V0 (1+θ273]Where Vo = volume of gas at 0°C = 500 cc;Final temperature (0) = 273°C. So the final volume of the gas will be 500(1+273273] cc =(500×2) cc =1000 cc or 1 lit.
