Synapse is the point of contact between the terminal branches of an axon of neuron with the dendrites of another neuron separated by a fine gap. At this gap, the nerve impulse jumps into the next neuron. This is sometimes a chemical process. As the impulse reaches the terminal end of an axon (presynaptic neuron), a chemical called neuro transmitter is released. This chemical transmits the action potential to the next neuron.
