Question

At equilibrium in a container of 10ml 60% of the reactant gets dissociated into product in a container of 10ml. Calculate its equilibrium constant.
H2O + CO ---> H2 + CO2

Open in App
Solution

Since % is given we can assume that the initial moles as 100 and since 60% of the reactant gets dissociated into product we can use 60 moles of the reactant reacted.
H2O CO H2 CO2
Initial 100 100 0 0
change 60 60 60 60
equilibrium 100-60 =40 100 -60 =40 60 60

Kc = [H2][CO2]/[H2O][CO]
= [60][60] /[40][40]
=2.25
