At present Sohan is $12$ years older than his sister Nilu. After $5$ years his age will be $2$ times the age of Nilu. Find the sum of their present ages..

Let the present age of Nilu be $x$ years
Present age of Sohan $=x+12$ years
After $5$ years Nilu's age will be $(x+5)$ years
Sohan's age will be $(x+12+5)$ years i.e.,
$x+17$ years
now according to the question
$(x+5)\times 2=x+17$
$\Rightarrow$ $2x+10=x+17$
$\Rightarrow$ $2x-x=17-10$
$\Rightarrow$ $x=7$
Nilu's age is $7$ years
Sohan's age is $7+12=19$ years
Hence, the age of Sohan and his sister (Nilu) are $19$ years and $7$ years respectively
Hence the sum is $(19+7)=26$ years
