Solution

Thomson model Introduction

  • Sir J J Thomson in 1897 studied the characteristics of cathode rays and discovered protons.
  • J.J Thomson proposed a Thomson atomic model in the year 1900.
  • This model explained the description of the inner structure of the atom theoretically.
  • It was also known as the Plum pudding model.

Rutherford Atomic Model

  • Ernest Rutherford, a British scientist conducted an alpha ray scattering experiment.
  • Based on the observations of this experiment, he proposed the atomic structure of elements and gave Rutherford Atomic Model (1911).
  • He discovered the atomic nucleus.

Bohr Model

  • Neil Bohr proposed a model of an atom in 1915.
  • This model explained the stability of an atom which was not explained by other models.

Therefore, the sequence of atomic models in the order of their chronological order is

(i) Thomson's atomic model

(ii) Rutherford's atomic model

(iii) Bohr's atomic model
