Automobile tyres generally have irregular projections on their

surfaces so as to increase friction between tyres and the ground.

This enhances the grip of the tyres on the road.

For instance , while taking a turn , a vehicle undergoes

circular motion. So , a force equal to the centrifugal force

has to act on the vehicle . This force is provided by the frictional

force acting on the vehicle. Hence , the irregular projections

increase friction between tyres and the ground and prevent the vehicle

from skidding.
