Solution

b) The food synthesised by the plants is stored as starch.

The plants synthesise food through the process known as photosynthesis. During the process of photosynthesis, the cells of leaves containing chlorophyll in the presence of sunlight, synthesise carbohydrate from carbon dioxide and water. Oxygen is also released as a byproduct in the process. The carbohydrate is finally converted into starch. The process of photosynthesis can be represented in the form of an equation as:

Carbon dioxide + Water Sunlight,Chlorophyll−−−−−−−−−−−− Carbohydrate (Starch) + Oxygen
