Solution

A prokaryote is usually a unicellular organism, that lacks a membrane-bound nucleus, mitochondria or any other membrane-bound organelle. The word pro+karyote simplifies pro means before and karyon means nucleus. That means they lack true nucleus. While the higher organisms are called eukaryotes because they possess a true or an enveloped nucleus and membrane bound organelles.
