Antibiotics are antibacterial compounds produced by the bacteria or obtained synthetically. They are used in treatment of various bacterial infections. However,s some bacteria shows resistance to certain antibiotic. Beta-lactamase is an enzyme produced by bacteria that provide resistance to antibiotics ampicillin, cephalosporin. These antibiotics are made up of β-lactam ring. Lactamase enzyme breaks the β-lactam ring open and hence deactivate the antibiotic.
