Question

Balance the following chemical equations.
i) NaOH + H2SO4 → Na2SO4 + H2O
ii) MnO2 + HCl → MnCl2 + H2O + Cl2

Open in App
Solution

Dear student
i) The given chemical equation

NaOH + H2SO4 → Na2SO4 + H2O
To balance two sodium atoms on product side we assign coefficient 2 to NaOH on reactant side and two balance four Hydrogen on reactant side we assign coefficient 2 to H2O on product side.

Therefore the balanced form of the above chemical equation will be

2NaOH + H2SO4 → Na2SO4 + 2H2O

ii) The given chemical equation

MnO2 + HCl → MnCl2 + Cl2 + H2O
To balance four chlorine atoms on product side we assign a coefficient 4 to HCl and then to balance four Hydrogen on reactant side we assign a coefficient 2 to H2O on product side

Therefore the balanced form of the above chemical equation will be

MnO2 + 4HCl → MnCl2 + Cl2 + 2H2O

Hope this answers your question.
