Solution

Dear student,

The balanced equation:
Ca(OH)2 (aq) + CO2 (g) CaCO3 (s) + H2O (l)

Lime water is a saturated solution of Ca(OH)2 in water. When carbon dioxide is passed through lime water, it turns milky due to the formation of calcium carbonate. Lime water itself is a chemical substance is not fit for consumption, and so when CO2 is passed through lime water, it will also not be fit for drinking.
