Balancing the following chemical reactions by identifying the products.

PCl5 ++H2O\to→H3PO4-------

Open in App
Solution

PCl5 (s)+4 H2O(l) → H3PO4 (aq) +5 HCl (l)

  1. A balanced chemical reaction is a chemical reaction in which the total number of each atom present on the left-hand side (reactants) and right-hand side (products ) are equal.
  2. Phosphorous pentachloride ( PCl5 ) combined with 4 molecules of water (H2O)gives phosphoric acid ( H3PO4 ) and hydrochloric acid (HCl).
  3. The number of atoms of each element present on the reactant side and product side is equal.
  4. P =1, Cl = 5, H = 8, O = 4.

Therefore, the equation PCl5 (s)+4 H2O(l) → H3PO4 (aq) +5 HCl (l) is a balanced chemical equation for this reaction.
