Importance of bamboo in the lives of tribals.​
  • As bamboo is found in abundance in the forest of Kunavaram, this forms part and parcel ​of the lives of tribals. They live in a house build with mud, bamboo, and thatch.​
  • Apart from using bamboo themselves, they also make baskets, winnows, chicken coops ​and more and take them to the local market for sale. ​
  • Tribals get employment opportunities by paper mills agents to cut and supply bamboo ​for the mills. This brings them cash income.​
  • They collect honey from huge trees which they climb with the help of single ​pole bamboo ladder.​
  • Tender bamboo shoots called ‘kari kommulu’ are collected from tips of the bamboo bushes. These are later cooked and relished by the tribals.​
