Question

Be the position of the point (-3,-2) with respect to the circle whose equation is x2+ y2-3x+2y-19=0

Open in App
Solution

We substitute the values -3 & -2 for x and y respectively.

So x²+ y²-3x+2y-19
=(-3)² + (-2)² -3(-3) +2(-2) -19
= 9+4+9-4-19
=22-23
=-1 < 0.

Since it is less than 0, the point (-3,-2) lies inside the circle.
