We know that microbes are useful as well as harmful and certain harmful microbes can cause disease as well. For eg: Foot and mouth disease is a serious livestock disease caused by Aphthovirus which mainly affects cattle, sheep, goats etc and major symptoms are blisters in mouth, feet and high fever. Similarly, Anthrax affects mostly animals and even humans and it’s causative agent is Bacillus anthracis. Major symptoms of Anthrax are skin ulcers with dark scabs and difficulty in breathing .
Typhoid and Common cold affects only humans. Typhoid is a water-borne disease and is caused by a bacterium Salmonella typhi. Symptoms include high fever, stomach pain, diarrhoea etc.
And, Common cold is an air-borne disease caused by a virus called Rhinovirus. Symptoms include headache, runny nose, sore throat, fever etc.
