Dear student\

When subjected to hypertonic media (e.g. 1.2% NaCl), the water will move out of the cells, and the cells lose their normal shape, and undergo extreme shrinkage.
On the other hand, in a hypotonic environment (e.g. 0.4% NaCl or distilled water), the water enters from the external media and the cells swell up.
