Solution

Find the distance of the school from home:

Let the distance of the school from their home be x miles.

The time taken by each of them is:

10minutes=1060=16hour

Speed of Bob walking is 3 mph and time taken by him is 16 hour .

So, the distance covered by him will be:

3×16[Distance=Speed×Time]=12mile

Speed of Bob's sister's biking is 12 mph and time taken by her is 16 hour .

So, the distance covered will be:

12×16=2miles

The distance of home from their school is the sum of distance covered by Bob and his sister:

2+12=52=2.5

Hence, the distance of home from their school is 2.5miles.
