Solution

Dear student,
Photosynthesis is a process of synthesis of food by green plants in presence of sunlight and carbon dioxide. Plants take in carbon dioxide and fix it into food through photosynthesis. Respiration is the process of oxidation of nutrients to release stored energy from them. The released energy is used by cells for different functions. So, plants need carbon dioxide for photosynthesis and oxygen for respiration.
