Question

DIFFERENCE BETWEEN TURGIDITY AND FLACCIDITY

Open in App
Solution

Turgidity or turgor pressure is a condition where, a cell is kept in a hypo tonic solution (i.e, higher water concentration than outside ) this will leads to the swelling of the cell and pushes the plasma membrane and creating a pressure against the cell wall. The state of being turgid is called as turgidity whereas flaccidity is a state of cell between turgidity and plasmolysis, where the turgid cell or swollen cell starts just releasing water outside the cell at this stage the cell become flaccid or soft and then it releases more and more water content outside to become plasmolysed cell.
