Solution

Nails:

  1. Nails are formed by modified, keratinized epidermal cells.
  2. Nail comprises many parts- nail plate, nail bed, cuticle, nail folds, lunula, and matrix.
  3. The nail plate is a visible part that rests on the nail bed (epithelial layer).
  4. The cuticle is a tissue that grows from the nail bed and sticks to the nail plate.
  5. The nail folds are made of soft tissues, which protect the lateral and proximal edges of the nail plate.
  6. The lunula is a whitish half-moon portion that is part of the matrix.
  7. The matrix is a hidden part that is present under the cuticle.
  8. Matrix produces new cells and the older cells are pushed out to take on the hardened form of nails.
