Solution

(a) Transpiration creates a suction force which is necessary for the absorption of water which is essential for photosynthesis as molecules line up in the xylem tissues for absorption the first molecule gets lost by the plant due to the transpiration.
(b) As it transpires there is some space left before the second molecule. It moves forward followed by all molecules of water which are lined up moving front like a chain.
