Briefly explain metamorphosis in frogs. [4 marks]

  • Following are the steps in the metamorphosis of a frog:
    • In the breeding season, the male and female frogs come together and the sperms and the eggs are released out in the water where they undergo fertilisation. (1 mark)
    • The fertilised eggs then hatch into tadpoles which almost look like a fish. (1 mark)
    • The tadpoles eventually transform into young frogs which have characteristics similar to frogs but still have tails attached to them. (1 mark)
    • The tail disappears eventually and the young frog now transforms into an adult frog. (1 mark)
