Briefly explain the process of respiration in Cockroaches.

  • The respiratory system of the cockroach is made up of a network of tubes called trachea.
  • These trachea open to the outside through small holes called spiracles present on the lateral sides of the body.
  • The tracheae inside the body splits into many small tubes which carry oxygen from the air to all the parts of the body.
  • The carbon dioxide produced is thrown out of the cell and removed via the tracheae and then out through the spiracles.
