Diabetes insipidus is an uncommon disorder of the metabolism of salt and water by the body characterized by the increased volume of urination and intense thirst.
The disorder is caused by hyposecretion of a hormone known as vasopressin or Antidiuretic hormone(ADH) secreted by the hypothalamus and released by the posterior lobe of the pituitary gland.
During the filtration process by the kidney majority of the fluid is returned back to the body while the waste and a small amount make the urine but due to low level of vasopressin large volume of water is lost in form of urine.
