Solution

Vegetative propagation

  1. Growing plants vegetatively means to use non-reproductive plant parts for growing new plants.
  2. This is known as vegetative propagation which is an asexual mode of reproduction seen in plants.
  3. Like leaves of Bryophyllum have buds on them which can give rise to new Bryophyllum plants if favourable conditions are available.
  4. The following are the reasons why gardeners prefer this mode of plant reproduction:
  • It is a faster mode of plant reproduction.
  • So, in a short period of time the gardeners can grow more number of plants.
  • As it is an asexual mode of reproduction, only one parent is involved.
  • So, good characters of the parent plant gets passed on to the new plants and thus gets preserved.
  • So, the gardener does not have to implement any separate techniques for doing so.
