Solution

1. Dropper is basically a glass or stiff plastic tube open at both ends.

2. On one of its ends is a rubber bulb, whereas the other end is moulded in the form of a fine nozzle.

3. In order to fill any liquid (ink) in a dropper, its nozzle is dipped in the liquid.

4. The rubber bulb is pressed with the thumb and fingers, This increases the pressure of the air inside the tube and hence it bubbles out of the liquid.

5. Due to the removal of air, the volume of air inside the tube decreases.

6. At this moment pressure is removed from the rubber bulb. This allows the air within the dropper to expand, but its pressure decreases.

7. In order to make up for the loss of pressure within the dropper, the air from outside exerts pressure on the liquid, This liquid in turn rises up in the dropper.

8. In order to bring out liquid from the dropper, its bulb is gently squeezed. This increases the air pressure within the dropper and forces the liquid out.

9. Ink pens work on the principle of a dropper. A rubber tubing is provided within the ink pen, which on squeezing in and out fills the ink in it.
