A Charter Act was passed according to which, one lakh rupees were to be set aside by the Company for imparting education to the Indians. The Charter Act of 1833 was important because, according to this Act, English East India Company was deprived of its exclusive privilege to trade in India. However, it was allowled possession of its territories for the next twenty years.
