N-methyl aniline is the product of methylation of aniline.
When aniline is treated with methyl iodide, N-methyl aniline is obtained. However N-methyl aniline reacts further with another molecule of methyl iodide to form N, N-dimethyl aniline. N, N-dimethyl aniline further reacts with another molecule of methyl iodide to form trimethylanilinium iodide which is a quaternary ammonium salt.
