Is $\frac{4}{5}$ equal to $\frac{16}{20}$ ?

The given fractions $\frac{4}{5},\frac{16}{20}$ are unlike fractions because they have different denominators.

When we compare two unlike fractions, we first get their equivalent fractions with a denominator which is a common multiple of the denominators of both the fractions.

The LCM of 5 and 20 is 20.

The equivalent fractions with the same denominator are :

$\frac{4}{5}=\frac{4\times 4}{5\times 4}=\frac{16}{20}$ and $\frac{16}{20}=\frac{16\times 1}{20\times 1}=\frac{16}{20}$

Since, $\frac{16}{20}=\frac{16}{20}$

$\therefore \frac{4}{5}=\frac{16}{20}$
