The three applications of neutralization reactions include:
When someone is stung by a bee, formic acid enters the skin and causes pain, which can be relieved by rubbing the spot with slaked lime or baking soda, both of which are bases.
2. In the prevention of tooth decay. When the pH in our mouth falls to 5.5 tooth decay starts. The saliva produced by salivary glands is slightly alkaline, it helps to increase the pH, to some extent, but toothpaste which contains basic substances is used to neutralize excess acid in the mouth.
3. Antacid medications( e.g aluminium hydroxide) are used to neutralize the excessive acid found in stomach.
