Question

Calculate electrons, protons and neutrons in H3PO4.

Open in App
Solution

Step 1:
H3PO4
Hydrogen = 1 proton, 0 neutrons
Phosphorus = 15 protons, 16 neutrons
Oxygen = 8 protons, 8 neutrons.

Step 2:
As we know, there are 3 moles of hydrogen and 4 moles of oxygen.
1(3) + 15 + 8(4) = 50 Protons
0(3) + 16 + 8(4) = 48 Neutrons

Number of protons and electrons are equal in an element.

Hence, the number of protons and electrons will be 50

The number of neutrons will be 48.
