Solution

The correct option is A 1.5×107J
We have , Lice=3.34×105J/kg,m=5kg
From the definition of latent heat , heat required to convert ice into water at constant temperature 0oC ,
Q1=mLice
or Q1=5×3.34×105=16.7×105J
Now , heat required to heat up the water at 100oC from 0oC ,
Q2=mc(1000)=5×4200×100=21×105J , where c=4200J/kgoC
Further ,Lw=2.24×106J/kg,m=5kg
From the definition of latent heat , heat required to convert water into vapour at constant temperature 100oC ,
Q3=mLw
or Q3=5×2.24×106=112×105J
Total heat required ,
Q=Q1+Q2+Q3
or Q=16.7×105+21×105+112×105=149.7×105=1.5×107J
