Solution

The correct option is D 5.95×105J
We have , Lice=3.34×105J/kg,m=1.5kg
From the definition of latent heat , heat required to convert ice into water at constant temperature 0oC ,
Q1=mLice
or Q1=1.5×3.34×105=5.01×105J
Now , heat required to heat up the water at 0oC to15oC ,
Q2=mc(150)=1.5×4180×15=0.94×105J , where c=4180J/kgoC
Total heat required ,
Q=Q1+Q2
or Q=5.01×105+0.94×105=5.95×105J
