Solution

The correct option is A ΔfH=485.8kJmol1
As given,
C(s)+O2(g)CO2(g), ΔH=393.7kJ
H2(g)+1/2O2(g)H2O(l), ΔH=285.8kJ
CH3COOH(l)+2O2(g)2CO2(g)+2H2O(l), ΔH=873.2kJ
Reaction of formation of acetic acid
ΔH of the reaction is
2C(s)+2H2(g)+O2(g)CH3COOH(I)ΔH=?
from reactions we can see that,
ΔH=2ΔH1+2ΔH2ΔH3
=2×(393.7)+2×(285.8)(873.2)
=1359+873.2
=485.8kJmol1
